Smallest Red Alert Toy Review

Individual Review

Name: Red Alert
Series: World's Smallest Transformers
Allegiance: Autobot
Alternate Mode: Lamborghini Countache Fire Chief's Car

Height: 1.5cm Length: 5cm Width: 2.5cm

A very small white and red Lamborghini with black windows and tyres, silver headlights and hubcaps, Red Alert has no moving parts, compensated for with a nice intricate paint job. there's a tiny Autobot logo on the hood. This red hood, "FIRE CHIEF" wording and badges on the hood and the doors, that are trademarks of the character, are all there - and are just as clear on this toy as on the original. The moulded windshield wiper is left unpainted, which is an improvement on Sideswipe, who has a black wiper. He has a strobe rack on his roof, which is the only mould difference between this toy and it's predecessor. Aside from the Red Alert additions and the wiper, the paint job is basically the same - black front bumper, orange taillights and black air intakes, although Red Alert lacks the orange indicators Swiper has. The engine cover, spoiler, air intakes and windows are all true to the Countache that Red Alert is based on.    There's not really much to this car mode, which is understandable at this scale. But the paint job is great and it _looks_ like a Countache and is unmistakably Red Alert. Play value really isn't the point of this line anyway - detail is, and the detail here is impressive, from the unpainted white wiper to the tiny "FIRE CHIEF" wording - which even has the black outline.

Pretty faithful to the original, although somewhat simplified. Extend the rear to form the legs, flip out the feet. Pull the sides out to become the arms, fold over the front to become the chest, which will also reveal the head.

As I said, it's really the same scheme simplified. You might notice he has no screws - everything clips together. His spoiler, roof and head can pop off, and while they're not going to jump off and land in your pool, you do have to be a little careful when transforming him.

Height: 5cm Width: 3cm

While the original towers over him, this Red Alert is pretty faithful to the original. His chest and arm panels are white, his thighs red, shins, fists and head black and forearms and feet silver. The Autobot symbol and badge are now on his chest. The red thighs are actually red plastic, whilst the silver and black details are all painted. Oh, his face is painted silver, complete with tiny moulded eyes and mouth. The base colour of the head piece is red, and while it being painted black is more toy accurate, a red head like the Red Alert in the G1 cartoon would have been cool.

The proportions are slightly off in this mode - his chest and head protrude further forward than they should. It's not a major thing, but his head does look a little weird, since it's now attached to the chest rather than rotating around the same axis that the chest does (as was the case on the original). His head is also a little lower than it was on the original, giving him a slight hunchback.

The poseability is limited to his arms rotating at the shoulders - which is what the original can do, so that's pretty good for the size, and is about all the transformations scheme allows anyway.

The proportion issues mean this is the worst of his two modes, but the more involved paint job means Red Alert looks better as a robot than Sideswipe does, since there's more detail to distract your attention away from the proportions. Even accounting for the proportions, this is still a sweet robot mode for the size.

None that I'm aware of, although he is a repaint of Smallest Sideswipe, as mentioned.

A very cool mini Red Alert, with a great car mode and solid robot mode. The level of detail achieved in the paint job is fantastic, and this compensates for the minor problems the robot mould has. Whether or not you get it depends on how much you like the concept and how much you like Red Alert. I am personally a big fan of Red Alert, but even if you're not, I recommend this toy amongst the Smallest Transformers line - it's one of the best and is better than the corresponding Sideswipe toy - 8/10
