Allegiance: Predacon

Alternate Mode: Pteranadon

PTERANADON MODE
Height: 6cm Length: 12.5cm Width: 14cm

A red pteranadon with green spots of paint on his crest, arms, back and tail. He has yellow eyes and white teeth. This colour scheme is believable enough, and we'll probably never know what colour Pteranadons were, so I'm calling him realistic. It's actually a pretty good looking colour scheme, which is what counts in this case.

He's got outspread wings, a jaw that opens and closes and a neck that lets him look down - although the robot mode feet get in the way of this, since they hang (noticeably) under his neck. He has ankles that move but they only fold forward so he can fall forward and not look up. Being from the first series of Beast Wars, he's got lots of skin detailing - with scaly skin and smooth outstretched membranes for wings - which is a nice touch. He even gets the fingers on the outside of his wings and skin moulding on the underside of his arms

Terrorsaur has limited play value in this mode, but he has good detail. I personally don't mind the colour scheme - I actually like it in a weird way - but the detailing is probably his strong point in this mode.

TRANSFORMATION TO ROBOT MODE

Well, being an original Beast Wars basic, he's got an auto-transform. Lift the head and a spring, a couple of gears and some hinges do most of the work. Position his hands & ankles and give him his gun (which lives in a compartment behind his head).

ROBOT MODE
Height: 13cm Width: 14cm

Thanks to his wingspan, Terrorsaur is wider than he is tall. He's a red robot with black upper arms, groin and thighs. He has red wings, chest, forearms, knees and feet. His hands, shins and head are painted blue, his face is white with green eyes and the crest on his head is red (the only spot on the head where the base plastic is visible). He's also got green spots on his chest, since that's formed from his beast mode tail section. Like the reptile mode, this is a pretty good colour scheme. The wings are pointing down, meaning that in this mode the tips point up, and he looks rather impressive like this.

While his beast mode pretty much sits there looks like a pteranadon, Terrorsaur's robot mode is very poseable. He's got ball joints in his neck, elbows, shoulders, hips & knees, with hinges on his ankles & wrists. All are tight enough to allow a lot of posing, although the mass of the backpack - with wings - mean you've got to get the ankles right or he'll overbalance. Mine has somewhat loose hip joints, although he's 7 years old, it does mean he takes a little bit of effort standing.

VARIATIONS

The first release had two tabs inside the compartment behind his head, the later version was missing these two tabs, making it easier to get the gun out (but also easier to lose). Lazorbeak, Fractyl and TFU Swoop are recolours of Terrorsaur.

OVERALL

The first Beast Wars toy I got (months before BW appeared in Australia), and still a toy I like. A fairly simple toy, but one that works. Good colours, good play value, and he's really poseable in robot mode. Easily better than Lazorbeak and being a show character increases his appeal - 8/10
