Individual Review

Name: Squawkbox
Series: Generation 1
Allegiance: Decepticon
Components: Beastbox and Squawktalk

Height: 10cm Width: 5cm

Squawkbox is purple above the waist and aqua below, with some common grey elements throughout. His face is pink while the chest is the centre of Beastbox's tape mode - complete with a dubious orange painted stripe and some black detailing. The four chrome weapons can clasp onto the outsides of the forearms. I'm not really sold on this colour scheme - the aqua, grey and purple in itself I can deal with, but the orange and pink just makes it too jumbled. There are silver stickers on either shoulder with Decepticon symbols on them.

Squawkbox has four chromed silver guns, all of which can clip onto the forearms. If you want to use all four, they have to piggyback each other, with Beastbox's weaponry on the bottom (ie connected directly). While Slamdance has an array of weaponry, Squawkbox's is all in one area - the Autobot's guns are better.

The articulation is pretty good, considering. The shoulders rotate and the knees can rotate allowing for a relaxed leg pose. Squawktalk's head is visible on the groin, and you can fold it down as a rather disturbing appendage - I'm not so sure I'll count this as useful poseability, but I guess it adds some (warped) play value.

This combination is a little messy, for the reasons I've stated above. The chest looks rather crappy, the unintended phallus is rather dubious, the colours aren't very unified and the weaponry is a little under-utilised. That's not to say I dislike the combination - but I appreciate the cleverness of the combination.

   None that I'm aware of.

While his two components both have good animal modes, Squawkbox himself is disappointing. For what he is, the robot mode is fairly well formed, but the colours and some design choices (especially Beastbox's colour map) hurt the look of the combined figure. It's a shame really since the combination itself is quite clever. Despite the shortcomings of the combined robot, I still recommend Squawkbox since his components are worthwhile, and the gestalt is cleverly formed - 7/10
