Name: Autobot Wheeljack (which is _not_ a trademark issue - Armada proves that)
Series: Transformers Universe
Function: Mechanical Engineer
Alternate Mode: Le Mans Racer
Height: 2cm Length: 7.5cm Width: 3cm
A white and black racing car with silver headlights, Wheeljack is a recolour of Daytonus. His base colour is white, the black is painted on, the paint mask is close to that of Daytonus, but there's more black on the back of the car than on Daytonus. There are red and green stickers on the hood and on the sides, which indicate that this is in fact the Wheeljack of G1. There's a fair bit of silver paint bordering the black paint and the windows (which are a dark grey colour). He's got free rolling black wheels with silver painted hubcaps. There are stickers on the sides with the number "539" on them - just like the original Wheeljack. Like other Spychangers, he has axles allowing him to roll free and straight.
This is very different to the original Wheeljack, with the extensive black paint. I get the feeling they couldn't find a G1 Autobot that fit perfectly, so went with Wheeljack, despite the black. While it's different, the red and green stickers and the number sell this toy as Wheeljack. There's a stamped Autobot symbol on top of the cabin, just in case the name doesn't make it clear that Wheeljack's an Autobot.
It's different, but this colour scheme is a nice one, so it's a good update of Wheeljack's car mode. The biggest flaw of this car mode is the heavy reliance on stickers, which is unusual for a Spychanger. Being fairly small, they're likely to peel off quite easily.
TRANSFORMATION TO ROBOT MODE
Remove the gun, pull down the legs, fold over the hood and pull the arms out. Give him back his gun, and you're done.
Height: 7cm Width: 4.5cm
The white and black colour scheme of the car mode is continued on his chest, his head, hands and thighs are white, and his face is painted silver. Wheeljack has charcoal coloured plastic on his shins and handgun. This doesn't really look much like the original, now that it's dominated by dark colours. The loss of the wings and distinctive head shape that the original had also make the link tenuous.
That's not to say this is a bad looking robot - it's nice, but it's not really Wheeljack. I'd probably be more of a fan had they not used both charcoal and black on this mode though - he's too dark for my liking.
The chest is a little wide compared to the rest of him, but his arms are a little longer than most other Spychangers, so overall he looks pretty cool. Ignoring comparisons, it's a decent robot mode for a SpyChanger.
None that I'm aware of.
This is a nice SpyChanger mould, and it's the first time that Wheeljack has been revisited since the end of G1, so there are reasons to get this toy. Daytonus does look better in my opinion, and I'm not too keen on his reliance on stickers. Definitely worth the retail price of $A5, but if you already have Daytonus you might want to skip him - 7/10
