SpyChanger Jazz Toy Review

Individual Review

Name: Autobot Jazz (for legal reasons)
Series: Transformers Universe
Allegiance: Autobot
Function: Special Operations Agent
Alternate Mode: Sports Car

Height: 2cm Length: 7.5cm Width: cm

This was an unused G2 Gobot mould until Robots In Disguise, when it was released with the name Side Burn. Anyway, he's a white sports car, and while he's not a Porsche 944, he's clearly Jazz, since he has a black red and blue stripe down the middle, the number 4 on his doors and hood and the word "MARTINI" on the doors.

The stripes and door details are actually transparent plastic stickers, he has a silver painted front grille as well as windows, headlights, taillights. His tyres are black with gold hubcaps. Otherwise he's white - in fact he's about 80% white. Incidentally, the central stripe on his hood also has an Autobot symbol. The mould is actually quite detailed for a $5 toy, although some of it is lost amongst the white. Being a Spychanger, he rolls freely in this mode, and can go a fair distance if set in motion.

It's a pretty good SpyChanger mould, and it's hard to go wrong when you stick to a neutral colour like white, so I can't really fault this mode. He rolls freely and the colours, but probably the best thing about this mode is that it really _is_ Jazz, despite him not being a Porsche.

Pretty simple. Pull down the rear to form the legs, fold down the hood to form the chest, pull out the arms, and remove the gun from between his shins. This is a feature the original six moulds of this type didn't have, and it's a nice feature.

Unlike my Side Burn, his gun stays in just fine, although you still the option of putting the gun in sideways if you want to.

Height: 6.5cm Width: 4cm

Jazz has even more white in this mode. His eyestrip is silver, and the hood strip with the number 4 and the Autobot logo are on his chest, and he has a set of tyres on his legs, but otherwise he's completely white. He looks like John Travolta out of Saturday Night Fever or something. While I wouldn't say he looks bad, more colour would look better. His gun is white, of course, and can be held in either hand.

The white head still bears the Robocop eyestrip that Side Burn had, but he comes off looking less like Robocop and more like Elvis (the Vegas years). He has very short thighs for a SpyChanger, making him short - even amongst this group of tiny Transformers.

Overall, this mode is okay but nothing special. The mould is a good one but he needs more colour. The gun sits in his fist better than Side Burn's does, though.

   None that I'm aware of.

It's a good mould, and not a SpyChanger mould that's done to death, plus it's clearly G1 Jazz, not just an inappropriate name reuse. Still, He's not as nice as Side Burn, who had a nicer colour scheme. If you have Side Burn, you can skip him, unless you're a Jazz fan. Still, it's good mould so if you don't have Side Burn, he's worth grabbing - 7/10 as Spychangers go
