Series: Japanse Generation 1
Alt Mode: Tank
Thanks to tha phantom for loaning me Sandstorm for this review
Height: 3cm (6 if you add his guns) Length: 9cm Width: 4.5cm
A beige tank with grey plastic treads. He's got a black cannon on his turret and his rear mounted add-on guns are grey. He has a distinctly different look to Brawl. There are some silver stickers down the side and a Destron logo sticker on the front. It's a good looking tank mode and nice colours.
His turret spins freely around 360 degrees, although if you add the extra grey guns it can't point backwards. The extra guns make the attack mode - not that tanks can't attack anyway - and can point forwards or up to around 85 degrees. There's no rubsign indent.
The movements of the turret and the attack guns is complimented by the wheels on the bottom of the treads, allowing a rather well armed Sandstorm to roll into battle.
A fairly standard sort of tank mode, and Sandstorm has a nice colour scheme, if understated.
TRANSFORMATION TO ROBOT MODE
Remove the attack guns if present, pull forward the front section, pull up the turret, swing the rear section down to form the legs. Swing the front section down to reveal the head and keep swinging the sides down to form arms. Push the turret back in and give him back his grey handgun.
Height: 9cm, 11.5cm to tip of turret Width: 4cm
A beige and grey robot, Sandstorm's thighs, groin and head are grey, while he sports orange eyes. The stickers on the sides of the tank mode carry over here. He's a fairly good square-peg combiner in this mode, very stocky & blocky. He has a similar look to Brawl as the head is (almost) the same colours Brawl, but with the cream instead of green.
The arms swing at the shoulders, and there are moulded fists on the insides of his arms - although you have to look to see them. He has holes on the fronts of the arms anyway to accommodate the gun, and these do decent job for hands anyway. The knees bend, though this is actually part of the transform it still does allow him two more joints. The turret can still swivel in this mode, though I can't see any reason why it would have to.
Sandstorm looks pretty good in this mode, if similar to Brawl. The beige is a nice colour in itself, but I don't find he has a hugely different feel to him in this mode.
None as such. He was only sold in the Battle Gaia giftset. He shares the mould with Brawl & Dangar, who has a broadly similar colour scheme.
A nice repaint of Brawl, and while the colours gives a different feel to the tank mode, he feels pretty close in robot mode. This isn't a knock on Sandstorm, but yeah he just doesn't stand out enough for me (which isn't helped by the colours of Dangar, in truth). I'm very partial to the mould - which is one of the better combiner limbs. I can't recommend Sandstorm as such though, given his rarity, but he's a good toy for what he is - 7/10
