Cliffbee.com Bot Shot Barricade Toy Review

Individual Review

Name: Barricade
Series: Bot Shots
Allegiance: Decepticon
Alternate Mode: Mustang Police Cruiser

POLICE CAR MODE
Height: 3cm Length: 5.5cm Width: 3.5cm

A small black superdeformed black Mustang with white doors, Barricade has red & blue painted strobes on the roof but no other colours. There's no allegiance symbol or police car markings - which I can understand at this size. I would have liked an allegiance symbol for some more colour on such a black toy, but Bot Shots don't carry them.

This chibi police car has a massive spoiler on the back and a fairly low detail front piece featuring sculpted headlights & grille - and they're trademark Mustang despite the simplified sculpt. He has large sports car-esque tyres rounding out the simple details here.

A cute little car but one that needs a little more colour. There's not much to it, but I am pleased that they managed to include the distinctive Mustang grille/headlights.

TRANSFORMATION TO ROBOT MODE

In theory you have to crash him headlong into another Bot Shot. You can always just press on the front bumper. Either way, through internal gears and springs he'll stand up on his feet (between the rear wheels), the front will flip back to reveal his head and the doors pop out to form arms.

ROBOT MODE
Height: 5cm Width: 7cm

A black robot with silver paint on his face & legs, Barricade has red eyes and silver screwheads visible on his chest. There's also the spinning panel on his chest which will be either red, blue or green depending on position. As in vehicle mode it's a dark colour scheme but since the silver face dominates this visage, the effect is much brighter.

As with all Bot Shots, this is a very short, chibi robot. The feet are big while the legs are vestigial, the torso short and the head huge. His arms splay out to the sides and there's a backpack in the form of the front of the car. Aside from the spinning panel, there's no play value here. His facial features are very un-movie like - they're more in line with G1 (as the mould is shared with Prowl).

The scores on his chest are Sword 840 (red); Blaster 400 (blue) & Fist 390 (green).

A simple robot with a nice colour scheme, Barricade works about as well as a Bot Shots robot mode is going to.

VARIATIONS

None that I'm aware of. As mentioned, he shares the mould with Prowl.

OVERALL

Bot Shots are incredibly simple, cutesy Transformers. You're either going to appreciate them or hate the concept. Having said that, from the few I've sampled he's a good effort. I would have liked some more colour in vehicle mode but at the same time I like that they're managed to get the Mustang elements in there. A fun little toy for his low price - 7/10
