JET MODE
Height: 3cm Length: 10cm Width: 7cm

   A white X-29 with blue and black squares all over the top, forming a diagonal lattice pattern, and red splotches over the lattice. Space Case looks downright bizarre, and very unrealistic. The red splotches are actually a rather jagged bird of prey, not that this is easy to discern - or realistic. Space Case has a transparent yellow cockpit and some red robot bits visible underneath, which houses retractable black landing gear. It looks as silly as it sounds, and I'm wondering what the designer was smoking when he put together the paint mask.

   Unlike the two other Cyberjet moulds, the missile launcher is on Space Case's underside, making it less accessible and poseable than those of his teammates. I don't mind all that much, since you can unclip the arm it's attached to and target it underneath the jet. In the rest position, it does get in the way of the front landing gear if it's down, which is a fairly obvious design flaw for the designer to overlook (but hey, looking at the paint, the guy was probably high at the time!). I'm glad to report that the rear wheels have no such problems.

   I don't mind the missile being in the way of the landing gear, since you can clip the yellow missiles under each wing and they look pretty good there. Ok, so they clash with his paint, but the paint clashes with itself anyway. The undercarriage junk is fairly minor, and you don't really notice it since the paint overwhelms it. There are no Decepticon symbols on this jet - or anywhere on Space Case.

   The missile launcher will fire the missile around a metre, and you can tap the missiles out as(somewhat long) bombs if they're underwing. The missile launcher is a ball-pressure affair. Basically, you push on the back of the missile until the ball slips out of the claw and the missile flies across the room. The upside is that there aren't any moving parts to wear out, but these aren't as powerful as spring launchers.

   The missile and wheel colliding isn't the disaster it could have been - the missile plastic is soft, so it'll happily sit on one side of the moulded wheel. Still, the designer dropped the ball here. Otherwise it's a fairly good mould, which is ruined by the paint mask. What's really annoying is that without the paint mask it's actually a pretty good colour scheme (although it would suit an Autobot better than a Decepticon).

TRANSFORMATION TO ROBOT MODE

   Pretty involved for a small Transformer. Retract the landing gear, fold the legs up from underneath and forward. Swing out the arms on his underside, swivel the cockpit and lift up between his shoulders to form the chest and reveal his head. Position his limbs and stand him up. This is the easiest Cyberjet mould, and is the only one with a symmetrical transformation.

ROBOT MODE
Height: 9.5cm Width: 7cm

   Mainly red and white now, Space Case still has the blue and black lattice thing on his chest, and his head is painted blue for some random reason. The majority of the toy is white plastic, the upper arms, groin and thighs are red plastic while the canopy on his chest is transparent yellow - and the bombs are solid yellow. Rounding out the colours, his collar and the missile launcher on the underside of his right forearm are black. The wings hang out to the sides behind his waist while the smaller tailfins are behind his shoulders. This mode looks much better than his jet mode since it loses most of the paint mask. The blue head would have been better left white, although I suspect they gave it a dark colour to give him more of a Decepticon look - this robot mode really feels like an Autobot.

   Like all Cyberjets, Space Case's face is a yellow "T" shape, which is also a lightpipe that works very well. The missile are yellow, and can either load in his launcher, be held in his fists like clubs or attach to the armour skirt formed by his wings. The yellow plastic works better in this mode - because of the reduced impact of the paint mask.

   The missile launcher on his right hand works better in this mode that jet mode, and looks _really_ good on his arm. It's actually riveted on, although I wouldn't want to remove it. While the other Cyberjet moulds have a claw-hand, Space Case has two hands as well as the launcher, so it supplements rather than replaces an arm. This is probably the only aspect of Space Case that's better than Hooligan or Skyjack.

   The missile launcher is only half the fun of this robot mode. The neck, shoulders, elbows, hips and knees are all ball jointed and a wide range of poses are possible. He can aim a missile or use them as clubs. Space Case has fairly small footprints, so you have to fiddle sometimes to get him standing upright, but most poses are possible with a little patience.

   The only real flaws of this robot mode are gaps on his shoulders, on either side of his neck. The remnant lattice works against him, but doesn't manage to be the eyesore it is in plane mode. It's a good mould with a decent colour scheme, although it really should have been an Autobot.

VARIATIONS

   None that I'm aware of, although Cyberjet Strafe is a repaint of Space Case.

OVERALL

   The paint mask really is Space Case's defining feature, in a bad way. The mould is a good one, but Strafe looks about eight times better. Strip the paint and make him an Autobot, and I'd really recommend Space Case, but as he is I'd actually recommend against this guy, and recommend waiting until you find Strafe - 5/10
