Name: Sideswipe
Series: Movie Tie-ins
Allegiance: Autobot
Alternate Mode: Corvette StingRay Sports Car

SPORTS CAR MODE
Height: 2cm Length: 7.5cm Width: 3.5cm

A silver sports car with a blue painted window, the front is darker blue which lightens as it wraps around the sides. Sideswipe has black plastic tyres, blue-grey painted headlights and red painted taillights. There's a black Autobot logo stamped at the back, between the taillights. The silver plastic has a milky swirl to it, common of Hasbro's cheaper metallic plastics. The overall look is pretty good and while I have some doubts about the long term durability of the plastic, it's a pretty good match for the simple colours of the larger toy.

As you'd expect of a Legends toy, the play value here is limited to spinning wheels. You can flip out the heelspurs on his grille as James Bond style cannons or a claw like weapon, and while neither of these are intended, both look convincing enough at this size. Sideswipe has a good level of detail with a tiny Corvette badge on the hood, petrol cap at the back, grille details and side mirrors.

A good car mode with colours that closely match those of the larger toy. The milky plastic is of slight concern, but "Gold Plastic Syndrome" seems to be rare these days. The detailing is good and the heelspurs add some unintended play value.

TRANSFORMATION TO ROBOT MODE

Pull the sides out, swing down. Split the front and swing back the halves. Rotate these halves forward to form his legs, flip out the heelspurs. Fold down the rear to form his chest, revealing the head and dragging the arms into place.

ROBOT MODE
Height: 7.5cm Width: 5cm

A silver robot with black thighs and a blue-grey face and blue-grey on his chest. The Autobot logo and taillights are on his chest, rounding out a colour scheme which is a simplification of the deluxe's colours. There's less black and no blue, but the silver and black theme is the same. The legs are a bit of a mess as far as sculpt goes but the blades sculpted inside the side panels hanging off his arms are a nice touch.

Sideswipe's poseability is minimal, which is to be expected. His hips and shoulders are ball jointed although only the latter offer any real poseability. There are hinges in his knees, but they fold forward so they're not much use. The arms - with attached blades - give him some poseability, thankfully. There are relaxed leg poses available.

A decent little robot mode despite the front of the legs being function inside-of-car stuff and fairly limited leg poseability. His bodyshape is good, the arms are poseable at the shoulders with decent little sculpted blades and the chest looks good. This is his weaker mode, but it's not a bad robot mode as Legends go.

VARIATIONS

   None that I'm aware of.

OVERALL

While he's not flawless, Sideswipe is a good Legends toy with good detailing overall despite slightly disappointing legs. His colours work well and are quite close to those of the larger version while his play value is admirable for a Legends toy. I have some concern about the milky plastic, but it's just cautious rather than a sense of dread, and at this pricepoint it simply doesn't affect my enthusiasm for the toy - 8/10
